Le Author’s Note: Another chapter? So soon? Yeah, this one’s mostly filler but I couldn’t resist doing another puppy POV. Considering I didn’t do one for Phoenix… he’ll get over it. In other news,
THESE DOGS ARE SO FREAKING CUTE!!! *ahem* Sorry, buuuut yeah, they honestly are the perfect genetic mix to their parents. What would be super awesome is if someone made more dog poses for story telling purposes like dogs talking to each other or something, pack poses… Not just realistic dog poses. Oh well, I’ll just work with what I got so far!
Spark’s POV:
Ok… today is the day. The day I apologize for biting his ass and ripping his underwear so many times. The day I apologize for ripping up her papers and drooling all over them… the day I atone for my behavior. Now where are they?
My trusty friend, Colonel Hersey was next to me waiting as patiently as I was for the mailman and paper girl to show. Now, I wasn’t a problem dog, that was my sister… I just so happen to think they’re part of a conspiracy. I mean, who comes to a house and delivers stuff but never sets foot in the house unless they’re just scoping for us to let our guard down? Conspirators! I mean– damn, this might be harder than I thought.
I look to my right and see not a soul on the road. The day may be gloomy but come on, it’s not that bad. The talking box said it would just be cloudy, not rainy.
My left yielded the same information. Empty. HOW WAS I SUPPOSE TO APOLOGIZE IF THEY DON’T SHOW?? They’re LATE! …right?
“Colonel Hersey, I don’t think they’re going to show. What if the Board of Mailmen and Paper girl’s decided it was high time to attack the house? What if today is the day… it all ends? Woe is me, for I cannot tell! What do they plan on doing!?” I exclaim. Colonel Hersey was always a good listener. He even agreed with me (most days) about the conspiracies.
At least Colonel Mustard keeps watch on the backyard. I can’t be in several places at once… yet. I heard rustling behind me and I knew at an instant who it was. My sister Sadie, fellow lieutenant of the brigade. Needs to work on her stealth more.
As soon as she pounced I easily dodged and avoided collision with her; which resulted in her landing on her side.
“Did not go as planned. How’d ya do it?” She asked skeptical of my every ready skills.
“I always know it’s you Sadie… either you or one of the conspirators. Speaking of, you seen them lately?”
“Um yeah, earlier. You’re about 2 hours late bro. Figures, you did sleep in.”
“Two–” I let out a sigh. Of course. Today of ALL DAYS I would be the one who’s late. I was gonna say sorry, or at least, try to. I looked to Sadie who was still laying on her side studying me.
“You know, you should work on your ‘conspiracy’ stint. Dad already said they’re harmless.” She says slowly. I know what dad said, I also know what mom said: ‘You never know.’ So that’s why it has befell to me that I should be the protector of this home. “Hey, I got something to show ya.”
“What?” “It’s a secret.” I glared at her. Her secrets were always one of misfortune on our ends. One time, she almost got us butchered by stealing meat… from a BUTCHER! “Mom and dad know?” Knowing full well of the answer she was bound to give I still asked and watched her nose twitch. Something that always happens when she lies.
“Of course.” Right.
“Count me out. I don’t want any part of this.” “Aww come on Spark! It’ll be fun, plus, it’s kinda an adventure.” Saying that last part in a sing-song voice my sister knew she had me. The word ‘adventure’ has become sort of a trigger word for me. That and explore. Excavate, uncover, discover, journey, endangerment, experience, trip, venture… just to name a few others. I try to hold my composure a little longer to show that I wasn’t seriously considering what ever she had planned but she could see me squirming.
“Adventure! Exploration into the unknown! Never before seen, um, stuff! Never before sniffed, other stuff! The world has a plethora of answers!” She says excitedly. And of course, she breaks me.
“Alright fine, let’s do this. Work on your advertisement a little more though. Lead on, dear sister.” “Of course, dear brother.” And another adventure began.

“So you pull me all the way out here for… what, exactly?”
“I dunno, thought this place was cool.” “It’s literally just an open field… without marsh.”
“Well, I mean, the stone steps stuff is kinda cool. Plus no other dog has been here before, ‘cept me of course but you know what I mean.” Sadie says. We literally could’ve went anywhere else and I would’ve been more impressed by it. Instead she leads me to an field that looks like some sort of ritual sacrifice area.
“I smell something… don’t know what but something was here recently.” I say to her and she scoffs. “Yeah and Big Foot exists. I don’t smell a thing… but hey look at that!” She sprints off to somewhere nearby and stops, looking down at something. I reluctantly follow her.
“FEAR ME!!” A little snake yells… or at least it tried to. It’s voice kinda strained at the end there.
“Aw, hey little, fella. Ya lost?” Sadie asks it and the snake hisses. “No you mutt! I live here although sssomething big hass been dessstroying my homesss I’ve been rebuilding. Wait, why am I telling you thisss? Fear me I sssay!”
“Sorry little snake but did you say something big? How big we talking?” “Big as a horsse, but the one glimpsse I had it looked like it had fur. Like you dogsss.”
“Big as a horse and fur?” “Skeptical…” “It’ss true!”
“The world is huge to a little snake.” Sadie says matter of fact-ly.
“Very true.” I agree giving the snake a long stare. It stared right back.
“Whatever. I don’t have time to converssse with caninesss. Jussst be careful. I don’t want your blood around here.” The snake says and slithers away.
“Vile little things they are. What do you think it was talking about?” Sadie asks, excitement dancing in her eyes. “Nothing. A hoax.” I say sternly. Not getting in any trouble today. “Well fine… you’re it!” Sadie yells, tagging me and darting off.
“Oh you’re on!” I yell and chase after her.

Sadie’s POV:
“Wow. You’re huge, what are you?” I stopped in my tracks at the huge animal before me. Spark and I have been chasing each other other around for some time so this was a welcome distraction. It’s wise eyes regarded me solemnly and I could feel myself get even more curious at it’s origin.
“I am a wolf.” The beast said softly, that’s when Spark ran up and gasped.
“What in the cosmos–” “It’s a wolf apparently.” “It’s too big– you’re too big to be just a regular wolf. Are you maybe, a Dire wolf?” Spark asked it and his ear twitched slightly.
“I used to be. My clan kicked me out for helping my best friend.” the giant wolf sighed. “Well, why’d they do that? My brother is my best friend and I would never let anything hurt ’em.” “Curious pups you two are. My clan does not really like other species outside of it. My best friend, he was a cunning trickster. A fox.”
“Ah, understandable. Foxes aren’t very trustworthy.” My brother says and a look of hurt passed through the wolf’s eyes. “Joji would never hurt anyone, but, my clan… they did not see it that way either so they killed him and banished me. Now I roam the lands.” He said slowly. I could tell he was tired, must be, from all the travelin’ he does.
“You two must not be from around here, I come through here every day and never smelled you before.” “I just found this place a couple days ago. I just brought my brother here today.” I explain and the wolf nods. “Parents know where you are?”
“Yup!” “Uh–” I nudged Spark and his eyes darted from me to the wolf to me and back. He then gave a quick nod in compliance with me. “Yeah, they know. But maybe we should head back, it’s getting late Sadie.” I tear my eyes away from the giant wolf to look at the sky. It was darkening.
“Alright Spark, let’s go.” I say and we both bid farewell to the wolf.
“Hey, if you were born something, no matter what, you’ll always be that. You were born a Dire wolf, so you stay one. Just because you’re clan is simple minded doesn’t mean anything, just like having a short tail from a long one don’t.” I say before I leave and the wolf blinked at me slowly.
“…Thank you. For saying that.” He says and I nod, satisfied I made a small difference. “By the way, there’s a mean lil’ snake around. You’re stepping on her houses so be more careful.”
“I did not know. I promise to. Good bye for now young pup. Go home before your parents worry.” The wolf states and lowers its head to sniff the ground. I turn around and dart off to catch up to my brother. I would totally be coming back here again. Seeing that was the most excitement I had in a long time.
